Training Groups for 2021

Please note:

Your allotted group is not necessarily a reflection of your strength. Group A is primarily aimed at 1st Team regulars as well as younger players who have committed to Squash as a first sport.

Important! If you cannot commit to Group A, kindly decline the invitation. Group A members have a two-fold obligation – 1 to develop their own game and 2 to help develop the game of the rest of the group. Group A members who cannot attend a specific session are obliged to notify the group (not to me personally) prior to commencement of the day’s session.

Ladder: I have replaced the Grey High ladder with a seeding. It is unreasonable to conduct a round robin tournament when too many of the players are unable to play due to other sporting commitments. With respect to Top Schools, we will make teams selections which will result in a measure of subjectivity but this is inevitable as we are committed to taking the strongest possible teams to this event.

Please call me if you would like to discuss your situation in private.

Regards, Ed

VJ at St. Andrews.

With the two festivals coming up in the new year, I have committed two teams on behalf of Grey High.

The St. Andrews FNB Squash festival 19th February to 21st February 2021; Bloemfontein.

The Dave Hodgson Festival 12th February to 13th February 2021; Grahamstown.

Each of these is important for its own reason, Bloemfontein has the best teams in the country against which to pit ourselves in preparation for the year’s squash and Grahamstown is a playoff for the right to represnt Eastern Province at Top Schools.

It is important that we pick two teams and play our players in the appropriate order so that the boys get games relevant to their strength.

We are running a round-robin for the players for the next 8 places in order to fairly place them. Matches are to be best-of-5 to 11. They may be played in your own time and during school sessions. By the end of January I will place the players in order in accordance with the number of points they have scored at that time. I will award walk-overs if players persistantly avoid requests to play.

It is vital that I be informed of the results of games so that the result table can be updated.

The group (in no particular order) consists of:

1 Zunaid Lewis
2 Marco Giacconi
3 Ben Wessels
4 Josh Butler
5 Devon Jansen
6 Jordan Strydom
7 Adrian Mitchell
